About Me

Becoming a therapist
It can for some, be interesting or helpful to know a little about someone they are considering to be their therapist.
I retrained as counsellor after having my first child. Prior to this I had been a PA, and also enjoyed some blissful years in the equestrian industry. I struggled during my twenties with undiagnosed neurodiversity, an anxiety disorder, chronic insomnia, and then whilst pregnant with my first child, prenatal depression. I have always had an interest in understanding people, and had after college been offered a place on a psychology degree. At that point in my life, I declined due to overwhelm and lack of self-belief. I often reflect upon how different my life may have looked, had I understood the benefits of, and sought my own counselling many years ago.
The journey to becoming a counsellor changed me immensely as a human being. The path towards being able to help others to make sense of their world, begins with developing a greater understanding of self. My own empowering experience, leads me to hold great value in the beauty and privilege of sitting with another human being navigating that journey.
I enjoy both academia and developing practical skills and techniques, which I can use in therapeutic work with clients. I believe in life long learning and find it greatly rewarding to help people to gain insight and to begin to make positive changes.

In 2018, I undertook placement to accrue necessary clinical hours for my degree course with two separate organisations. I provided counselling for those who had suffered sexual and domestic abuse and counselling for problem gamblers and their families. After qualifying, I became an Associate Counsellor for one of the organisations, which has since seen a lot of change, including diversifying the support offered to cover a wide range of client issues. Over the years, this has provided me with an invaluable amount of experience, which I now bring to private practice.
Psychological theories and psychoeducation are a passion of mine and although Transactional Analysis remains my core modality, I also integrate concepts from:
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Neuroscience
-
Attachment Theory.
Transactional Analysis was written to be understood and easy to apply. I often share concepts with clients, which many enjoy. Transactional Analysis theory provides a structure which we can use to begin to make sense of how your past may have may have shaped you into who you are today and to possibly aid a greater understanding of others around you.
